Have you caught onto
the pickleball craze yet?
A mash-up of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong the sport is rapidly gaining popularity in Canada and around the world.
Roger, a self-proclaimed pickleball addict, was introduced to the sport by friends in California.
“I was looking for a sport that was more senior appropriate – trying to find more people the same age and athletic status as me.”
Not a super competitive guy, Roger says that avid players, known as picklers, are often “more approachable,” and “that most players easily learn as they go” from others on the court.
Having tried pickleball only a few weeks ago, Karl can confirm that he felt welcomed.
He says it’s “a great sport with a regular group of new friends.”
Having played a lot of racquet sports, he finds pickleball to also be “very age appropriate and fun!”
Whether you play singles or doubles, the game has a lowered net, paddles, and a Wiffle style ball.
Although variations may occur, basic rules include:
- Points can only be earned on the side that serves.
- Each side must let the ball bounce once before volleys are allowed.
- Each side has a “no-volley” 7’ zone.
- The first side to score 11 points and lead by at least 2 points wins.
